NORTH AMERICANS UPDATE

Gulfport Yacht Club is locked and loaded for the upcoming three Viper 640 North American Championships. As was discussed in the North American Executive Committee meeting earlier this week, the sailing and social plans GYC has in place make this a “must sail” event…and now that’s even easier than you may think.

Don’t want to tow your boat to Mississippi? Turns out you really don’t have to. Sam Vasquez at GYC has between three and five Vipers available for charter and very, very reasonable rates. Get your crew, book a hotel or AirBnB, and come sail this year’s North American Championships. Open teams, Women, Youth, they can accommodate all.

To arrange to charter a boat, contact Sam Vasquez.

GEOFF EWENSON MEMORIAL SERVICE AWARD

Call for nominations!

The Viper 640 Class presented the first Geoff Ewenson Memorial Service Award to Peter Beardsley last October at the North Americans. The selection committee (Steve Chapman, Peter Ill, and Mary Ewenson) are accepting nominations for a 2022 awardee. If you would like someone within the Viper family who has provided long-term service to the Class, email Steve Chapman with your nominee’s name and a bit of why she/he deserves this recognition.

As a reminder, nominees should embody Geoff’s contributions to the Class:

Geoffrey Ewenson Memorial Service Award

This award is presented in honor of Geoff Ewenson, who openly and warmly helped so many in the class.  It is to be awarded on occasion to a person who, in the judgement of the North American Executive Committee, has made outstanding and sustained contributions to the Viper 640 Class.

The Allstate Sugar Bowl
2023 World Championships
Update

Viper 640 Worlds are coming to the Big Easy

March 24 – 31, 2003

Southern Yacht Club in New Orleans, Louisiana, the second oldest yacht club in the US, is pleased to host the Allstate Sugar Bowl 2023 Viper 640 World Championship. Racing will take place on Lake Pontchartrain, a shallow water estuary, which can deliver some very challenging conditions in March. In addition to the World championship, SYC will also host a 4-weekend Viper Winter Series as a tune-up to the Worlds, and the Viper International Women’s & Youth regattas.

And if exciting racing isn’t enough, New Orleans is a party town with world class restaurants and music venues. Click here for more information on all events, including dates, lodging, boat storage, and most importantly – to register!

SOUTHERN YACHT CLUB
VIPER WINTER SERIES

Winter Racing Plans – With the Worlds taking place in New Orleans, LA, USA next March preceded by a 4-part Winter Series also at Southern Yacht Club, the Sarasota Sailing Squadron’s Viper Winter Series is taking a hiatus year. However, Miami’s Bacardi Invitational Regatta is still on the calendar.

We would like to give the organizers of both events whatever guidance you can provide as to the likelihood you will be sailing in any of them. Share with the class your best guess of your Winter 22-23 Viper plans by clicking HERE.

Making it Easy!

NAs and Worlds Viper Transportation Logistics

Gulfport and New Orleans: making it all easy for us are Viper sailors Andrew Brennan and Max Alpert who have put together a program where they will move your Viper, they will store your Viper, they will even set-up/derig your Viper. All it appears they won’t do for you is sail your Viper. They can even arrange long haul delivery to Gulfport or New Orleans if you can’t do it yourself.

So plan on getting Viper to Gulfport for the NAs. Then get it to New Orleans for the Winter Series and the Worlds. For more information click HERE or call Max at 985-264-8350.

Hummm, concierge service for your Viper 640. What will they think of next?
