Western Australia Viper 640 State Championships 2023

Twelve Vipers competed in perfect conditions on the weekend of 2 and 3rd December 2023 at South of Perth Yacht Club.  A total of 8 races were completed in winds ranging from 5 to 15 knots.  The wind was variable in both direction and strength making for big gains and losses on the course.  Despite the wind variations the racing was extremely tight with all 12 boats finishing within 2 minutes of each other in most races.

After racing was completed on Saturday, a BBQ provided welcome sustenance for 65 people.  Champagne, wine, and beer complimented the fish tacos, grilled kebabs, sumptuous salads, and dessert platter.  Great to see some younger sailors entering the fleet making it a multi-generational sporting event.

Congratulations to Rod Beurteaux, Jon Stubbs and Simon Wilder sailing “You Get in the Bowl” who won in a close battle from Murray Howson, Craig Hansen and Jordan Mears on “Atheris.”  Full results

Winter Sailing Plans Heating Up

Sarasota Viper Winter Series

The first of four North American winter regattas is just a few days away and there is still room for you. The Sarasota Sailing Squadron’s Viper Winter Series #1 will be raced this weekend, December 9-10. There are 20 boats registered and, looking at the entry list, most everyone sailing has a chance for the podium. Particularly if you’re in the south, forget holiday shopping for a weekend and go Viper sailing.

The next two Sarasota events are Jan 13-14 (14 boats already registered) and Feb 9-10 (13).

And after Sarasota,

it’s the Big Show in Miami!

The Vipers will be back sailing at the 2024 Bacardi Cup Invitational Regatta March 6-9. Miami’s Bacardi regatta was the gemstone of the Viper’s North American circuit and now, post covid, has regained its momentum. There already is a good fleet of Vipers sailing…you should join the fun.

Be in Miami on March 6th

for the 2024 SCORCH

One of the highlights of every Viper sailing season is the blast across Biscayne Bay from Coral Gables to No Name Harbor’s Boater’s Grill for a waterside lunch full of great Cuban food, camaraderie, and (possibly) a few beers. Frankly, some of the finest sails ever have been blast reaching home after the Scorch.

Plans are being put into place but mark your calendar to sail the Scorch March 6, the day before Bacardi Miami begins.
