Windy ACCs Deliver Excellent Annapolis Racing - Viper 640 International Class Association

If there was one takeaway from the 2026 Helly Hansen Sailing World Regatta Series Annapolis 2026, it was simple: there was wind.

The Viper 640 fleet arrived in Annapolis for three straight days of excellent racing conditions and a regatta that felt like the perfect kickoff to the East Coast summer season. The fleet was hosted by Eastport Yacht Club and raced on the SSA course off Hackett’s Point near the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, the event delivered exactly what sailors hope for when they tow to Annapolis in the spring: breeze, current, tight racing, and a full social schedule once the boats hit the dock.

Nineteen Vipers made the trip, including seven boats from the strong local Annapolis fleet along with teams traveling from Marblehead, Hampton, and the New York area. By the end of the weekend, the fleet had easily completed the full ten-race series.

On the racecourse, Annapolis reminded everyone that speed alone is never enough. The fleet spent the weekend managing the Chesapeake’s tricky current lines, with plenty of attention paid to the eddy around the starting area. Those who figured out how to balance pressure, current relief, and positioning around Hackett’s Point were rewarded.

At the front of the fleet, Team Z put together the most consistent series to take the overall win, followed by Glory Days in second and Gone Banana in third.

Off the water, the regatta kept rolling each evening with fleet debriefs and some standout parties. The after party at the AYC Sailing Center featured a DJ and a packed crowd, helping turn the event into as much of a gathering as a championship.

The final day brought a few breakdowns as the breeze continued to stay up, but by that point nobody was complaining. If anything, the conditions reinforced why Annapolis remains one of the best Viper venues on the calendar. Plenty of wind, tactical racing, and a fleet pushing hard all weekend long made for an Atlantic Coast Championship that delivered on every level.
