December is normally the time for our first Winter Series weekend in Sarasota. Travis and his team at the Sailing Squadron are readying for a special start this year: the 2024 North American’s. It will be all of the usual friendly people, great racing, tight competition, warm weather, lively debriefs, holiday boat parade, reasonable accommodations, and St. Armand’s bar crawls. Don’t miss it!

The Squadron is again opening up storage for boats that want to continue in the Winter Series in January and February. And of course, Sarasota is a great feeder into the Bacardi Cup Invitational Regatta in Miami from Thursday March 6th through Saturday March 8th.

The Great Lakes Vipers met in Kingston, ON for the Great Lakes Championship August 17 & 18. Windy conditions allowed the RC to get in 8 good races over the two days, with good gradient winds from the south keeping everyone on their toes. Van Sheppard (327) sailing with two of his sons, Alexander and Steve, took home the honours, followed by the Marblehead team of Cole Constantineau (294) third place went to Steve Chapman (328) with Christophe Ledent and Tom Miller.

After great racing last year, a strong fleet is again headed to Miami for the 2025 Bacardi Cup Invitational Regatta. Miami is known for steady breeze, tight racing, terrific parties, and prime winter sailing. Lots of people have this on their bucket lists. It is worth it.

Per earlier class communications, we no longer have the services of our long-time Class Administrator, Buttons Padin. A search committee of Peter Beardsley, Cole Constantineau, and Mary Ewenson is working on finding a new administrator. Until that person comes on, we need more hands to help with some of the tasks of running the Class. Specifically:
Promotion and marketing
Social posting and management
Communications (such as these newsletters)
Sails stickers and database maintenance
Class membership rolls
If you have any interest in helping out, please contact Peter Ill, pmi36y@gmail.com, or anyone on the Executive Committee.
