The rudder on the older boats is retained on the pins by a mere plastic clip. If the upper pin doesn't have a hole in it, drill one, and mount a stainless steel trailer clip to keep the rudder gudgeon on the pin no matter what. Use a light line to attach the clip to the mount so you can't lose it.
