Australian Vipers

The Viper 640  has arrived Downunder.

A Perth sailor, Rod Beurteaux, started the Australian Viper fleet. After a lifetime of dinghy sailing Rod moved into small keelboats.

Shortly after that he decided life is too short…….Sail fast boats!

Rod literally, travelled through three continents combining business trips with a search for the best 20’ sport boat.

He was looking a boat that was:

Strict one design

Exciting to sail

Simple to rig and sail

Had a reputable builder

Was reasonably priced

Only the Viper 640 ticked all the boxes.

Four boats were imported in 2009 and a local fleet was established on the Swan River, Western Australia. The Viper has proved ideally suited to Australian conditions. The fleet has continued to grow and there is another container arriving in the New Year and the fleet will number eight boats.
