2009 Viper 640 North American Championship

The Western Long Island Sound Viper fleet welcomes our fellow Viperers to Southern Connecticut.

Below is more detailed information about the regatta. We will continue to post updates as details are finalized.

Thursday, 9/17 0800-1000 Registration – Stamford Yacht Club

1300 Practice racing

1900 Dinner – Indian Harbor Yacht Club

2000 Viper 640 Class Annual General Meeting

This is a barbecue style dinner on the lawn at IHYC, with a beautiful view of the Greenwich Islands. The dinner, Gosling’s beverages and beer are included in the entry fee for the skipper and crew of each boat. Additional tickets may be purchased for at a cost of $20 each. 

Friday, 9/18 0800-1000 Registration – Stamford Yacht Club

0900 Skippers Meeting – Stamford Yacht Club

1030 Warning, first race

TBD Post race gathering and chalk talk (time will be announced)

Please keep in mind that all boats must be in the water by 0845 on Friday. In keeping with Viper tradition, we are planning on chalk talks after the races on Friday and Saturday, with some of the leading racers, sail makers and coaches participating. We are also planning on taping the talks and uploading them to YouTube.

There is no formal dinner planned for Friday night, so grab some friends and go to one of the many local restaurants. We will compile a list of some area restaurants.

 

Saturday, 9/19 1030 Warning, racing resumes

1900 Dinner – Stamford Yacht Club

Our dinner on Saturday will be a buffet with all kinds of wonderful food, Gosling’s beverages, beer and wine up on the Vineyard Deck. We will have pictures from Photoboat.com of the racing running on a screen. We will announce the raffle winners, and general fun will be had by all. We are thrilled to report that we will have The Bang, Connecticut’s favorite Rock and Blues Band, playing for us from 2000 to 2200, so bring your dancing shoes! Tickets for this event are included in the entry fee for skipper and crew and extra tickets can be purchased $55.

Sunday, 9/20 1030 Warning, racing resumes

1430 No warning signal after

Awards Presentation and wrap up party at Stamford Yacht Club as soon as practicable upon completion of racing. We will have light meal Gosling’s beverages and beer to go along with the presentations to the winners.

Other Important Notes

Regatta Apparel

Coral Reef Sailing Apparel will be on-site at the regatta selling regatta clothing. You may order your items ahead of time for pick up at the regatta, or some items may be shipped to you prior to the regatta. Please go the regatta site at Coral Reef to see all the wonderful items they have

Activities for the Non-Racers

Lower Fairfield County and the surrounding areas offer so much to do if you are not sailing. Here are just a few suggestions:

New York City – NYC is less than an hour away from Stamford via Metro North Rail Road. Once in the city, well you can do almost anything – it’s New York City! Here is the link to the Metro North Rail Road train schedule.

 

Museums - the area is chock full of them! Here are a few suggestions:

The Bruce Museum, Greenwich, CT – art and science

The Stamford Museum and Nature Center – working farm and more

The Lockwood-Matthews Mansion and Museum – in Norwalk

The Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk – with an IMAX theater

The Barnum Museum in Bridgeport – yup, about the circus

The Beardsley Zoo- Bridgeport

The Bronx Zoo- if you really want to see a really big zoo!

 

Shopping - There are several outlet malls in the area for the shoppers out there:

Clinton Crossing Premium Outlets, in Clinton, CT

Tanger Outlets, Westbrook, CT

Woodbury Premium Outlets – the other side of the Hudson, but often worth the trip
